PHOTOAGEING by BLUE LIGHT
The Blue Light
Blue light is the natural part of sunlight with high energy visible light with wavelength range of 400 to 500 nm.
Nowadays, most of the blue light that we are exposed to does not come from sunlight, but rather from everyday electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers and TVs.
These devices have a light emission peak at about 470 nm, firmly in the middle of the blue light range (400-500 nm).
Skin damages by blue light
This short-wave optical radiation has strong oxidative capacities and can damage skin cells due to the production of free oxygen radicals that are among the main responsible for skin iper-pigmentation, inflammation, weakening of the epidermal barrier and aging effects including loss of elasticity, dryness and fine lines.
From the sea a precious defense against blue light
Marine seaweeds are exposed to light and high concentrations of oxygen that leads to the production of free radicals and other dangerous oxidizing agents.
Constituents of the main seaweed apparatus should be vulnerable to these photodynamic phenomena, however no damage are observed in seaweed.
This particular protective mechanism makes marine plants an ideal ingredient for protection against light exposure in general and in specific against the blue light
SEACTIVE-ZT: a natural blue light remedy from the uncontaminated Azorean sea
SEACTIVE-ZT is an anti-ageing and anti-blue light active ingredient based on the extract of the brown seaweed Zonaria tournefortii harvested in the pristine and clear waters of the Azorean sea, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
This seaweed source was selected by Naturalis because of its particular photoprotection system and its richness in pigments that absorb radiations in the blue light range, such as chlorophyll, carotenoids and phlorotannins.
